Grand Finale Thoughts from Carolyn Krueger, Gallery Director of Gallery West and
Owner of The ARTery
“I started working for Dean Schroeder and his MidCoast Fine Arts in 2008. I was a year out of college, blue hair and all. But Dean saw my potential. He hired me to run one small casement gallery in the RiverCenter. It wasn't long before I was running four gallery spaces and helping with almost every event. By 2009, I was opening my first gallery, The ARTery in Rock Island.
As I prepare for our very last ARTery pARTery, I am so proud of our gallery. I'm proud of the artists who took a chance and put their work out there with us for the first time. I'm proud of my amazing volunteers; I have been so lucky to work with such dedicated individuals. I'm proud to live in a community where I can support myself as an artist and a teacher. One hundred and thirty-two receptions later, I'm proud to say we are ending this well.
Losing MidCoast will leave a void in our community... not just our arts community.
Some folks may have never known they were attending an event put on by MFA. They went to Gallery HOP and had a glass of wine, I hope they bought something from one of the dozens of local artists who got their start at HOPs. Maybe they didn't realize that their high school student was even into art until the kid had the chance to compete in a pastel competition with their friends. So many folks have enjoyed Riverssance! Remember the old Great Mask Auctions? Those were amazing. We've rocked out at Deadstock, we've Wine Walked at Bucktown, we pARTery with the best of them, and we sure have had a good run."
